Know who we are Welcome to AGSML

Akwaaba

Akwaaba or welcome! Welcome to the web portal of the African Graduate School of Management and Leadership (AGSML). The schools mission is to educate a new cadre of dynamic African leaders, managers and entrepreneurs who are ethical and committed to contributing to peace, stability, development and prosperity on the African continent and globally.

To be able to do that, according to the late Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana, Africa needs a new type of citizen – dedicated, modest, honest, informed men and women. Men and women, who will submerge themselves in service to the nation and mankind. Men and women, who abhor greed and detest vanity. A new type of African, whose humility and passion for the growth and development of Africa and our global commons is their strength. And above all, this new type of citizen’s integrity would be their hallmark. Africa’s current positive economic growth trajectory and that for over a decade Africa’s economy contained the world’s ten fastest growing countries; that in eight of the past ten years, Africa has grown faster than East Asia including Japan is a testimony to a renascent Africa.

AGSML Welcome

Africa is therefore on a new tide, we need to take hold of this new tide to lead us to our fortunes. William Shakespeare says it best when he said, “there is a tide in the affairs of men which when taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, and we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.”

The African Graduate School of Management and Leadership emerged to help Africa take this advantage of this current that is served. This it is doing using the relevant pedagogy in leadership, management and entrepreneurship, employing cutting-edge technology to deliver quality and rigorous pedagogy that our award winning programmes have to offer. These programmes are equipping these new types of African citizens with the requisite lenses to see through the fog of underdevelopment that is currently holding Africa back. These programmes at their core contain a theoretical leg, a practical demand of our today’s hypercompetitive global environment and an African environment/cultural specific component.

African Graduate School of Management and Leadership is therefore a knowledge kernel, indeed an oasis of knowledge generation, exchange and dissemination. It is also a nucleus for the cross-fertilisation of ideas from a global faculty, African students and indeed students from all parts of the world. We hope by such vigorous engagement between our students, academics and practitioners in the public and private sectors, our students will be challenged to rethink some of their fleeting orthodoxies and mindsets that some of them have clung to.

If you are as excited as I am about this prospect, then come join us on this journey to produce new citizen leaders, entrepreneurs and managers for Africa and the world. Come with us to invest in the future of Africa and our world. This is because according to Ron Summer, a former Deutsche Telecom CEO, “those who do not invest in the future would not have one.”
